Fully Trained Protection Dog Program

By Application Only

Pricing and availability provided after consultation

Our Fully Trained Protection Dog Program is designed for individuals or families seeking a highly trained, stable protection companion capable of living inside the home and integrating into daily life. These dogs are not status symbols or short-term solutions — they are working animals that require ongoing structure, handling, and commitment.

Each client is carefully matched with a Belgian Malinois or Dutch Shepherd based on lifestyle, experience, and goals. The dog is trained to exacting standards, and just as importantly, you are trained to handle and communicate with your dog effectively.

Program Overview

This program includes:

  • Careful dog selection and matching

  • Comprehensive obedience and protection training

  • Extensive handler education and transition support

  • A focus on stability, neutrality, and real-world functionality

These dogs are trained to be calm, clear, and responsive — not reactive or uncontrolled.

Training Includes

Obedience & Control (On & Off Leash)

  • Heel

  • Sit & Down (stationary and in motion)

  • Sit-Stay & Down-Stay

  • Place (climb)

  • Reliable recall

Protection Work

  • Defense of handler

  • Home and vehicle defense

  • Threat recognition and controlled response

  • Clear engagement and disengagement criteria

Environmental & Lifestyle Conditioning

  • House manners and crate manners

  • Calm behavior in vehicles

  • Tolerance of routine handling (nail trims, grooming, veterinary care)

  • Comfortable wearing equipment such as collars, vests, and footwear

All training prioritizes clarity, control, and stability over intensity.

Client Expectations & Requirements

This program is not suitable for everyone. Applicants must demonstrate:

  • Prior experience handling high-drive dogs or willingness to undergo extensive training

  • The time and lifestyle required to maintain training long-term

  • An understanding that protection dogs are never “finished”

  • Commitment to structure, consistency, and ongoing practice

These dogs cannot be sidelined, ignored, or inconsistently handled without consequence.

Ongoing Support

Clients receive lifetime support for obedience and protection maintenance, ensuring the dog remains safe, stable, and effective as circumstances change.

Important Considerations

  • All clients must complete a Zoom consultation and evaluation process

  • Acceptance into the program is not guaranteed

  • There is no guaranteed delivery timeline

  • Dogs are placed only when training, stability, and handler readiness meet our standards

  • No expedited or rush programs are offered under any circumstances

Each placement is deliberate, ethical, and based on long-term success — not speed.

Is This the Right Program for You?

This program may be a good fit if you:

  • Want a serious working companion, not a pet with extras

  • Are prepared for the responsibility of a protection-trained dog

  • Value control, stability, and education over image or intimidation

  • Are willing to invest time, effort, and respect into the process

This program is not appropriate for individuals seeking quick solutions, novelty, or minimal involvement.

Getting Started

To begin the process, please schedule a Zoom consultation. This allows us to determine whether this program is an appropriate fit and to explain the evaluation and matching process in detail.

Handler Responsibility & Liability

Owning and handling a protection-trained dog carries significant responsibility. These dogs are powerful, highly trained animals whose behavior is directly influenced by their handler’s decisions, consistency, and judgment. Successful ownership requires ongoing education, structure, and accountability.

Handler Responsibility

As the handler and legal owner, you are responsible for:

  • Maintaining consistent training, structure, and clear communication

  • Following all handling, management, and safety protocols provided during training

  • Ensuring your dog is properly controlled at all times in public and private settings

  • Continuing obedience and protection maintenance as instructed

  • Making responsible decisions regarding when, where, and how your dog is handled

Protection dogs are not autonomous decision-makers. The handler’s behavior, timing, and awareness directly affect the dog’s responses.

Legal Liability

The handler assumes full legal and civil liability for the dog’s actions at all times, including but not limited to:

  • Bites or injuries to people or animals

  • Property damage

  • Misuse or inappropriate deployment of protection behaviors

  • Failure to maintain control, confinement, or supervision

Neither training nor prior stability removes the handler’s legal responsibility. Laws vary by jurisdiction, and it is the handler’s obligation to understand and comply with all local, state, and federal regulations regarding dog ownership, handling, and liability.

Public Access & Use

Protection-trained dogs are not service animals and do not have automatic public access rights. Handlers must:

  • Use discretion and good judgment in public environments

  • Respect posted restrictions and local ordinances

  • Avoid situations where the dog’s presence may be inappropriate or unsafe

Neutrality and control are emphasized in training, but public access is a privilege, not a right, and misuse jeopardizes safety and legality.

Ongoing Training & Maintenance

Protection dogs require ongoing reinforcement and maintenance. Failure to maintain training can lead to confusion, loss of clarity, or unsafe responses. Fulton Strong Canine Behavior Services provides lifetime maintenance support; however, the responsibility to utilize that support lies with the handler.

Acceptance of Responsibility

By participating in the Fully Trained Protection Dog Program, handlers acknowledge that:

  • They are assuming ownership of a working animal with advanced capabilities

  • Proper handling is critical to safety and success

  • Mismanagement, negligence, or misuse places people, animals, and the dog at risk

Acceptance into the program requires agreement to these responsibilities and an understanding that handler behavior is the most important factor in a protection dog’s success.
